There are several things that you should know about The Bluestone: first, the food is terrific and the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. Second, the chef Douglas Gruen is the owner and he cooks everything made-to-order. So, rather than dine somewhere else where a hired hand is cooking, let me tell you a few things that should help you decide to come right in and have a meal.
Douglas is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has worked in 5-Star restaurants throughout New York City - including the famous Delmonico’s. His award-winning recipes have been showcased during a cooking episode on the Regis Philbin Show and as Chef Instructor of the New York Restaurant School.
In 1982 Douglas was “the Youngest American Chef on 5th Avenue” while working at the American Stanhope Hotel, and for the past 25 years he has been creating, developing, and refining his skills. Since the arrival of Bluestone in the fall of 2005, Ithacans have been thrilled to find such wonderful cuisine at reasonable prices and word has quickly spread that we have a gem of a restaurant to experience.
As a former restaurant owner (and genuine food critic), I write this for your benefit to let you know that the meals are generous, the sauces and seasonings are exquisite, and the accompanying wine, beer, and drinks are worthy. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Come grab a cozy table, or if you are alone, the bar is a friendly place to dine and meet people. I know you will be plesantly satisfied, and look forward to coming back again. I love to dine out, and this is one of my favorite places in town.
Cheers!
